Bill Hix
Major General (Retired)
Known for his bold, innovative thinking, Major General Bill Hix has over 30+ years of unparalleled global expertise in the defense community. He has a wealth of knowledge in developing and advancing concepts that shape at a global-scale the geo-strategic security environment, with particular focus on C4ISR and elevated situational awareness. Advising senior civilian and military defense officials, he helped ensure modern, ready and sustainable forces and capabilities met the demands of a dynamic of national security environment.
WORKING HISTORY & EXPERIENCE
TCOM benefits tremendously from Major General Hix’s record of excellence and insights gained from his diverse mix of conventional, special operations, innovation, and strategy assignments, in peace and war, and his current role advising a variety of industry clients.
Major General Hix last served as Director of Strategy, Plans and Policy, Deputy Chief of Staff G-3/5/7, Headquarters, Department of the Army. His contemporary wartime experience includes command and senior staff positions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Earlier service includes Desert Shield and Desert Storm and peacekeeping operations in the Western Sahara and Sinai. Non-wartime assignments include senior positions as a Deputy Director, Army Capabilities Integration Center; Director, Joint Staff J-7, and the Supreme Allied Command Transformation. Earlier operational assignments include the 82d Airborne Division, 1st Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), and the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). His military awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge (with Star), Special Forces and Ranger Tabs, Master Parachutist, Free Fall, Pathfinder and Air Assault Badges, Distinguished Service, Legion of Merit and Bronze Star medals and a host of campaign and foreign awards.
Upon retirement, Major General Hix founded Next Horizon Partners, a security and innovation consultancy that serves a variety of industry clients. He serves as a member of the National Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine’s Board on Army Research and Development and its Science and Technology Experts Group, providing expertise to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the sixteen intelligence agencies.
EDUCATION
A published author and frequent public speaker, Major General Hix graduated with a Bachelor of Science from West Point, holds a Masters of Military Art and Science, and was a fellow with the Hoover Institution and the Massachusetts Institute Of Technology Seminar XXI.
