Tethered Aerostats

Tactical, Operational, and Strategic Solutions Designed to Meet Any Mission

Maintaining continuous aerial security is a daunting task. Threats such as low-flying, high-speed aircraft can exploit terrain obstructions and take advantage of the earth’s curvature. This renders ground-based radars unable to provide target information in time to take appropriate action.  Slow, low flying missiles with a small cross-section may also avoid early detection and pose a significant threat. 

Manned aerial surveillance can decrease the risk for short periods of heightened alert, but the operational costs are much too high for extended use.  To meet this airborne coverage challenge effectively and inexpensively, TCOM developed the 71M Low Altitude Surveillance System. With over one million hours of operation, these systems are the only operational airborne defense assets to routinely provide the continuous round-the-clock, low altitude target detection information needed to secure the skies.

Unmanned Airships

TCOM’s airship platform is a powerful surveillance tool and can be used for intelligence collection. Since airships usually are designed and built for a specific application, our in-house manufacturing means we can build airships of almost any size to meet our clients’ needs. Unlike drones, airships can be controlled remotely or by pre-programmed flight paths.

TCOM’s airships are a type of aerostat or aircraft of lighter-than-air construction that can be maneuvered and propelled through the air using rudders and propellers. Unlike aerodynamic aircraft like fixed-wing airplanes and helicopters, which produce lift by moving a wing through the air, aerostatic aircraft use a large cavity with a lift gas to stay aloft.

TCOM supports surveillance and communications markets for both commercial and military with three groups of products (fixed, mobile and integration) and has locations over 255,000 sq. ft. and 200 Ac. (CA/KS/AL).

We offer Military and Commercial products and hold several patents. TCOM  is ISO 9000 certified (all facilities) and has won multiple awards for outstanding support (see our awards section here). We support the full life cycle (prototype to production) and deliver an average of 40 of our large towers per month during peak production. We have delivered over 1,200 products in support OIF/OEF, and over 5,000 for AB-1386 QEAM in addition to providing engineering analysis and testing (wind loading) for both USA and USMC.
