TCOM 17M Aerostat Demonstrates Enhanced Counter-UAS Capabilities in Partnership with Honeywell and D-Fend Solutions

Columbia, MD. – TCOM, the global leader in elevated ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) platforms, announced the successful use of its 17M tactical aerostat in recent demonstrations of Honeywell’s Stationary and Mobile UAS Reveal and Intercept (SAMURAI) system. The event highlighted the increasing importance of aerostats as a persistent elevated platform to enhance the detection and defensive capabilities of counter-UAS operations.

During the demonstration, Honeywell’s SAMURAI system was operated both from a ground vehicle and from a TCOM 17M aerostat positioned more than 1,000 feet above the ground. By elevating advanced sensors and effectors, the aerostat provided a persistent surveillance advantage, delivering significantly increased detection range, tracking fidelity, and overall system effectiveness.

A key highlight of the trials included the integration of D-Fend Solutions’ cyber-based Counter-UAS payload, which demonstrated successful results at long-range distances when elevated by the aerostat. This extended range highlights the force-multiplying effect of utilizing aerostats as a persistent elevated platform, enabling operators to maintain a greater standoff distance and gain additional reaction time to counter drone swarm threats.

“Our 17M aerostat continues to prove its value as a reliable, rapidly deployable, and highly effective platform for persistent ISR and Counter-UAS missions,” said Nigel Sutton, Vice President of Business Development at TCOM. “By pairing the aerostat’s elevated endurance with advanced intercept and cyber capabilities, we are demonstrating how integrated solutions can deliver unmatched situational awareness and defense for operators facing evolving aerial threats in the air-ground littoral.”

TCOM’s 17M tactical aerostat is designed explicitly for expeditionary operations, providing a mobile, elevated platform capable of carrying multiple payloads to expand surveillance coverage and enhance operational effectiveness. This latest demonstration further reinforces the aerostat’s role as a critical enabler for modern defense and security missions.
